The London based painter Frances Wilks developed an obsession for the world of cars and the color red. In a very incarnated figurative style, she sketches portraits, typical scenes, and settings, or details of the world of Formula 1. Wilks shows us that one can always hijack the codes of what we could consider masculine archetypes (like the world of Formula 1) and play with them.
Frances Wilks’ “Boss” is a close-up portrait of the artist as a Formula 1 driver. The word “boss” sponsors her to victory.
