The Artist

The London based painter Frances Wilks developed an obsession for the world of cars and the color red. In a very incarnated figurative style, she sketches portraits, typical scenes, and settings, or details of the world of Formula 1. Wilks shows us that one can always hijack the codes of what we could consider masculine archetypes (like the world of Formula 1) and play with them.

Specifications

Frances Wilks’ “Quit II” depicts a scratch on the paint of the car, almost looking like a scar. The title begs the question: why quit?

It is also a homage to the numerous accidents a Formula 1 pilot might suffer through a career and the need to pick oneself up and keep racing.
